Zoe Thomson – Blues Highlight of The Week

Zoe Thompson is a child prodigy.  Slash may be at the top of his game when it comes to rock guitar. But even the top-hatted one himself has a special place of admiration for young shredder Zoe Thomson. The guitar great is recently shown a news report on the 10-year-old prodigy by another legendary player, Mountain’s Leslie West, and has hopped on board the Internet sensation’s fan club.  Slash posted this on his Twitter page: “Leslie West sent this 2 me today. So cool. I’m speechless. iiii]; )’ ” This is a post from 2013, but as you can see, Zoe has some skills!

Zoe Thomson picked up the guitar when she was five and her family has been showing off her talents through YouTube. The latest one to go up features Zoe performing Guns N’ Roses’ ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine.’ It was posted on April 11 and is closing in on 200,000 YouTube views already. In the video, Thomson was 7 years old.  Now 12, she’s rocking out in the kid outfit the Mini-Band.

The guitar great is not Zoe’s only celebrity rocker fan. In a news report (see below), the members of Metallica were shown footage of Zoe and the Mini-Band performing. In the clip, Kirk Hammett says, “By the time you guys are our age, you’re going to be incredibly great.” James Hetfield headbangs along to the footage of the Mini Band’s performance. Bassist Robert Trujillo chimes in, “They’re already incredibly great.” During an event, they received a personal video message and later were sent gifts and she receives an ESP LTD guitar and Randall amplifier.  In 2015 Metallica invited them backstage at Reading Festival, and they performed earlier in the day on The Pit stage.

Dream Theater

In 2012, the Mini band were invited backstage at Wembley Arena with Dream Theater. Not only did they get to go to the stage but got to play the drums and guitar.  The Mini Band is comprised of Harry Esson, Zoe Thomson, Charlie Emmons, Harrison Read and Archie Zolotuhin.  What makes this even better is that Dream Theater is as excited as the kids are.
