The Neville Brothers – Photo of the Week

The Neville Brothers. Performing live at the Blue Balls Festival in the Lucerne hall of the KKL Lucerne, Switzerland. The year is circa 2008. So, you know there is a whole lot of dancing and partying happening during this festival.

Besides their performance, others that made appearances were Erykah Badu, Shaggy, Macy Gray, Jethro Tull, George Benson, K.D. Lang. As well as Cassandra Wilson, The Neville Brothers, Söhne Mannheims, Peter Cincotti and Serpentine. This photo is a stock photo from the performance.  Either way, this whole festival would have been a blast to check out and it’s on my list!

The Supergroup of New Orleans!

Furthermore, they are the supergroup of New Orleans. The formation of this supergroup, began in 1976, as a recording session for the “Wild Tchoupitoulas.” They were a Mardi Gras Indian group led by their uncle, George Landry (Big Chief Jolly).

The Festival Playlist

Starting off their performance is “Congo Square”, “Fire on the Bayou” Tipitina’s, “Fever”, “Crazy Love”, “Sara Smile”, and “Bésame mucho.” As well as “Big Chief”, Voodoo, “It Ain’t No Use”, “Iko Iko”, “Tell It Like It Is”, “Yellow Moon.” Lastly, with “Amazing Grace.”  Since we don’t have video from the festival, we’ll just bring some N’awlins music to you instead! Enjoy.

Blue Balls?

Odd name for a festival! «Blue» stands for blues, jazz and wistfulness, «Balls» for dancing, partying and celebration. Put the two together and you get Blue Balls – a wonderfully innovative music and art festival in Lucerne.

It started out in the 1990s as the «Luzerner Seenachts Session», a fun jam session featuring 40 musicians aboard the vintage paddle steamer «Stadt Luzern». The festival gradually developed and grew in size over the years. The 120 gigs and events no longer take place on the steamer but in the KKL Luzern and on the Pavillon, and Hotel Schweizerhof Luzern stages.

It’s ranked amongst Switzerland’s top music and art events, the nine-day Blue Balls Festival transforms Lucerne bay into a crucible of creativity.  For More on this Festival Click Here.
