Terry Reid – Photo of the Week

Terry Reid. Now the Glastonbury festival but back in the day it is the Glastonbury Fayre in 1971. An up-and-coming guitarist who goes by the name Terry Reid gets an invitation to open the event. Reid along with his band including Alan White back in the drum seat duly kick off the event.

Furthermore, they do an encore which includes a superb rendition of Dean which segued into a jam with Terry trading vocal tricks with Linda Lewis. During this time, the band is at their best. This is the picture that is captured by Ronald Grant Archive as a stock picture from the event.

Furthermore, the Glastonbury Festival becomes a main event in the UK for 3 decades. 1973 the year of River’s release saw two performances by Terry on the classic BBC music show ‘The Old Grey Whistle Test’. Sadly, there’s only one track from River, ‘Live Life’. This is however more than compensated for by an excellent version of ‘With Expression’, with a relaxed and mellow Terry resplendent in cowboy hat.

What this festival did for Reid is that it opened a lot of doors for him. Also making him one of the finest vocalists Britain has ever produced with the star power to back him up. Even more, he turns down a job from Led Zeppelin, as well as Deep Purple. Why some would think this is psychotic, despite this he did quite well for himself. And he has the great stories to prove it!

Glastonbury Fayre Movie

For those interested in Glastonbury Fayre and seeing all the performances, there is an 87-minute documentary. It’s about the second Glastonbury Festival, an annual music festival in England. The documentary includes performances from Fairport Convention, Kingdom Come, Linda Lewis, Quintessence, Terry Reid, Traffic, and Bostik Swastika.

Glastonbury Festival took place June 20-24, 1971, in Somerset, and is filmed by Nicolas Roeg and Peter Neal. Glastonbury Fayre is a Music, Documentary that released in 1972.
