Smoke on the Water – Various Artists

Revisiting Smoke on the Water. Some of the biggest names in rock came together to record a new version of a rock classic. It’s for the people that lost everything from the Armenian earthquake in 1988. With different vocalists singing each verse, the single makes it to the UK Top 40 Singles Chart.

It’s a recording by an elite group of contemporary progressive rock, hard rock and heavy metal musicians. By coming together at the historic Metropolis Studios in Chiswick, London. Recording begins on July 8, 1989, and completes over 5 different sessions.

Behind the Scenes: John Paul Jones and Jon Lord did some work behind the scenes.

Rock Aid Armenia – The Documentary

The recording sessions for the re-recording of “Smoke on the Water” are captured and released in the same year. On video as Rock Aid Armenia: The Making of Smoke on the Water. Along with interviews and a video clip for the single. Film producer Paul Lovell produces and edits the final extended version of the documentary. Released on Laser Disc and VHS in Japan in 1991.
