Here Comes The Revolution
Warren Haynes is an exceedingly busy man. From his illustrious tenure with the Allman Brothers band and filling in for Jerry Garcia in The Grateful Dead, to maintaining a solo career and leading his own group, his name remains relevant in blues-rock today.
Among the other projects, in 1995, Haynes co-founded the blues-rock, jam collaboration called Gov’t Mule. Haynes is a popular figure in the jam band and blues scenes. He is frequently a guest at festivals and shares the stage with prominent acts. However, his primary focus is now back on Gov’t Mule, as they release their “first set of new material in four years.”
The album Revolution Come…. Revolution Go was released on June 9, 2017. The band brings their seasoned expertise and “signature mix of Southern rock, blues, funk and soul” as always. But there is something different about this album. Beginning recordings started on November 8, 2016, election night. As the night wore on, Haynes and the band realized the direction of the album would be swayed.
From the first heavy riff and lyrics of the album’s opener Stone Cold Rage, you get a sense for their inspiration. As Haynes noted “I’ve never seen people so angry and so divided.” Although this is one of their more outwardly political albums, Haynes lends credence to both sides and “ain’t asking no one to follow me.”
At its base, Revolution Come is steeped in traditional ‘Mule’ southern blues-rock. This long-awaited album strikes a great chord, In more than one way. This one is definitely a must listen!
