Mingo Fishtrap – Funk, Soul & A Slap of Blues
Mingo Fishtrap. Love the name of this band but what’s more important is what they bring to the table. At first, you hear some gritty soulful voice telling you one of his many stories and then the band kicks in. Horns galore mixing with soulful sax sounds swirling around the room for anyone to embrace. Furthermore, they’ve been collecting many fans ever since! For me, I thought they were from Memphis or New Orleans because of the style of music they were playing. Nope, they’re based out of Texas. Once you get into their groove, there’s no turning back. You’re hooked!
Attending the University of North Texas College of Music. Roger Blevins, Jr. casually asks a few dorm mates to jam on some old soul & funk tunes. Missing that sound that he had grown up hearing, the Mississippi-native quickly found himself surrounded by an eight-piece band. Also, complete with a percussion and horn section just for good measure! One thing leads to another, and they’re a band on tour providing support to the likes of Robert Randolph, Trombone Shorty, MOFRO & Galactic. As well as Little Feat, Parliament, and Earth, Wind & Fire.
Roger Blevins Jr. – Vocals, Guitar, Dane Farnsworth – Keys, Vocals, Chip Vayenas – Drums, Vocals, Aaron Hatmaker – Bass, Dan Bechdolt – Saxes and Steve Butts – Trumpet
