Eric Gales Plays Blues in Purple Style!

Some guitarists have a purple haze all in their brain. For Eric Gales, the purple haze is all in his shirt and hat.
This outstanding photograph of the rising blues rock guitar star, courtesy of Clevescene.com, shows off Gales’ as he’s rockin’ the coolest shirt & ball cap combination we’ve seen in a long time. Oh and he’s also rockin’ his axe in signature Eric Gales style, and we’re sure playing some sick blues rock riffs.
A little history: Eric Gales, who was born in Memphis, grew up hailed as a child prodigy. He learned to play a left-handed guitar flipped upside down (hmmm…). An early master of licks by such celebrated blues heroes as Albert King, B.B. King, and the incomparable blues rock guitar master Jimi Hendrix, he was born to play the blues.
Gales signed a contract with Elektra Records in 1990 and scored some hits on rock radio. He even made a guest appearance at the Woodstock ’94 festival with Santana.
He’s been called one of the best guitarists in the world, and he just dropped a new album on the Provogue / Mascot Label Group called Middle of the Road. It’s Gales’ fourth album on the label, which also serves as a home to other amazing blues and rock artists like Beth Hart, Warren Haynes, and Black Stone Cherry.
According to Gales, the album’s title is a reference to the idea of being centered or grounded in your life. If you don’t have balance, after all, you’ll probably fall into a ditch on the side of the road. Hence, try to stay in the Middle of the Road.
Gales’ guitar playing has been hailed by everyone from Santana, who called Gales “absolutely incredible”, to Dave Navarro of Jane’s Addiction and Red Hot Chili Peppers fame, who ponders, “How Eric Gales isn’t the hugest name in rock guitar is a total mystery!”
Well, he may not be the hugest name in rock guitar yet, but we damn well love and respect his playing here at Keeping the Blues Alive and you should too. Keep on rockin, Eric.
