KTBA Donates Yamaha Piano to High School Jazz Program

FORDLAND, MO – Thanks to your donations, Keeping the Blues Alive Foundation donated a brand new Yamaha piano to the high school jazz program at Fordland High School!

“We are a Title I school with almost a 50% free and reduced lunch rate,” Mrs. Taber explains.

“Our band students are working hard to rebuild their program after multiple director changes throughout the last 5 years. We participate in marching band, concert band, jazz band, solos and ensembles, district honor band tryouts, junior high honor band, conference band, color guard, and many concerts/events within our community.

We are asking for help to make our program something to be proud of and to help us get all of the instruments we need to succeed.

This year we are in need of an electric piano and amp to use with our district solos and our new jazz band!”

The piano is needed in our band room due to an untimely demise of our old piano. We have tried many avenues to fixing our old piano, but we’ve had no luck.”

According to MSHSAA guidelines, students must have an accompanist for a solo with a written piano part (which is almost all of them). It will provide students the opportunity to practice with a real piano like how it will be in their contest. High school soloists must ALWAYS practice with their accompanist before they go to contest.

“This piano will help our students by giving them a piano to play in jazz band as well as for an accompanist to accompany them in solo/ensemble contest,” she adds.

Thanks to the donations of Joe Bonamassa fans and music lovers like you, students in the Fordland Jazz Program will be able to perform their songs with appropriate accompaniment!

Mrs. Taber expresses her gratitude:

Dear Keeping The Blues Alive Foundation, Inc.,

Thank you so much for funding our project! My students literally jumped up and down when I told them our project was fully funded! We have so many students who will be auditioning for district solos and ensembles that will benefit from having a piano in our band room! I have many students who will use this piano for playing a solo and it will help us get our pep and jazz band up and running! Having this piano in our room is such a valuable resource for my students that will benefit them throughout their time in band. I am so thankful that we have such a great resource to help classrooms like ours get the equipment we need!

With gratitude,
Mrs. Taber
