KTBA Donates Drums to Grannemann Elementary!
ST. LOUIS, MO – Thanks to your donations, Keeping the Blues Alive Foundation donated new percussion instruments to students at Grannemann Elementary School. Within a week a djembe, gathering drum, pre-tuned tubano drum, congas, and floor toms will arrive in the music room!
The kids that attend Grannemann have endured many difficult experiences in their young lives. The North end of St. Louis County is very close to the events that unfolded in Ferguson, just 4 years ago.
“Our area at times is still affected but our students seem, in my opinion, to handle it well at school,” Mrs. Stanberry adds. More than 75% of the student population come from low-income households. Opportunity does not come around too often, so it’s best to be grateful when it happens instead of after!
“I love that [the students] deal with tough home situations and smile each day. Some use music and forget about their anger and for a few minutes they are taken to another place. I believe rhythm instruments can help to relieve stress and promote cooperation with learning and fun. My students need all of those particular elements to thrive in order to be successful in all other areas. For some, school may be all they have. For others, it may be all the “alone” time they get-as taking care of siblings before and after school may be their sole responsibility when their parents are working. My students are bright and hard-working, although some struggle in Math and EL.”
Thanks to the donations of Joe Bonamassa fans and music lovers like you, these students will have a wholesome music education class wherein they will learn about playing together as an ensemble – learning rhythmic rudiments, stickings, and basic music theory.
Mrs. Stanberry expresses her gratitude:
Dear Keeping The Blues Alive Foundation, Inc.,
I am ever so thankful for your contribution to my students drums! They started school yesterday and will be so excited! I cannot wait to be able to give to upper grades instruments they can play other than primary oriented rhythm percussion instruments. Special thanks to all of you again!
Every week, Keeping the Blues Alive Foundation donates music instruments, sheet music, supplies and more to students all over the country.
