KTBA Donates Tuners to High School Band Program

CLOVIS, CA – Thanks to your donations, Keeping the Blues Alive Foundation donated KORG tuners to Buchanan High School!

Mr. Lack, the orchestra director at Buchanan describes the program:

“The students at my school are diverse and represent a wide variety of socioeconomic backgrounds. They are talented musically and have made the extraordinary decision to make music an important part of their educational journey. These hardworking students are dedicated to their craft and equally committed to their academics as they are their musical pursuits.”

Playing “in tune” is one of the most essential elements of being a successful musician. It can also be one of the most challenging skills to develop. Technology in this area has improved dramatically over the years and can take the mystery out of developing a skillful ear for fine tuning.

Throughout the rehearsal/performance, the first chair musician will always be held the most accountable for the success of their section. In the music classroom, everyone is held accountable for their playing ability, however, they work as a team to fulfill the goal of having the greatest possible sound overall. As a result, these standards are held by the first chair musician and are passed down throughout the section.

By equipping the classroom with more tuners, more students will be held accountable for playing in tune – therefore raising the standard of excellence among the entire group.

“This grant will allow students to have a tuner and individual microphone to get that direct, individual feedback, Mr. Lack adds. “There is simply no substitute for every student visually recognizing if they are playing in tune or not.”

Each digital tuner has an LCD screen with an indicator as to whether the student is playing too flat (below the desired pitch) or too sharp (above the desired pitch).  The tuner accomplishes this by measuring the frequency of the pitch being analyzed, and tells the user whether to tune up or tune down.

“With consistent use of this technology, the students will get constant feedback about the quality of their intonation. Over time, the students’ ear will get better at recognizing and correcting intonation issues more quickly, ultimately leading to performances where the true power and beauty of the music can be fully realized,” Mr. Lack explains.

Thanks to the donations of Joe Bonamassa fans and music lovers like YOU, these students will begin to practice this skill on a regular basis – holding themselves accountable to remain in pitch throughout the repertoire.

Mr. Lack expresses his gratitude:

Dear Keeping The Blues Alive Foundation, Inc.,

I can’t thank you enough for funding this project that will allow us to purchase high quality tuners for the orchestra program. They will make an immediate positive impact on the students musical success from the very beginning of the school year.

I am eager to track their progress and improvement and show you the great results of your generosity!

With gratitude,
Mr. Lack
