KTBA Donates Ukuleles at Oak Tree Elementary School

GILBERT, AZ – Thanks to your donations, Keeping the Blues Alive Foundation donated twenty (20) brand new ukuleles to students at Oak Tree Elementary School.

General Music teacher, Mrs. Beasley, explains that her students are studying music in the Title I School in Gilbert.

“While I love teaching all types of music, one of my favorite things to teach is the ukulele to my 5th and 6th grade general music students,” she explains.

“Many of the students in my class are not able to be in band and strings, because of financial reasons. Playing the ukulele allows the students to still experience the joy of learning a new instrument. Each year the students impress me with their hard work and dedication to this this new and unique instrument.”

The process of learning a new instrument is not only musically beneficial to students; it also teaches them how to set and goals and work hard to achieve those goals.  They learn teamwork as well as setting individual goals to conquer on their own.

“My students also learn the importance of individual practice and how to be self sufficient. These are all skills that will be beneficial to them in other classes outside of music as well as in their future endeavors,” Mrs. Beasley adds.

However, many of my ukuleles have been well “loved” over the years and are no longer playable.

“I no longer have enough funds to provide enough instruments for every student in my class to play. Therefore, I am asking for outside financial assistance to help keep this successful and rewarding opportunity for my students alive.”

Thanks to the donations of Joe Bonamassa fans and music lovers like YOU, Keeping the Blues Alive approved a grant to supply Oak Tree Elementary School with the instruments they needed.

Mrs. Beasley expresses her gratitude:

Dear Keeping The Blues Alive Foundation, Inc.,

I cannot thank you enough for this generous offer! I am beyond elated than I am now able to provide a quality music instrument to all of my General Music students. Thank you for supporting music in schools, and allowing for all students to know the excitement and pride that comes from learning a new instrument.

With gratitude,
Mrs. Beasley
