KTBA Donates Orff Instruments to Band Program

HOT SPRINGS, MT – Thanks to your donations, Keeping the Blues Alive Foundation donated new Orff instruments to the students of Hot Springs, MT!

Mrs. White, the school’s band instructor is eager to get these kids involved!

“My students need hand drums and Orff instruments to complete lessons in our curriculum. These instruments are precursors to band instruments, and teach rhythm, steady beat, and percussion. We currently do not have enough.
My Students

My students live in a small rural town in Western Montana. They come from various backgrounds, but work together to enjoy learning! The neighborhood is very small, and of low income. Students struggle with family issues, and even making it to class can be a challenge. Our school is a safe place where they can thrive.

They love exploring musical skills with different instruments, stories, songs, and dances.
Our school didn’t have a music program for about 5 years, and brought it back last year.

Students will be able to use the hand drums to create rhythms to go with songs, marches, stories, chants, and more! Using drums, they can move throughout a space keeping the beat with their bodies, and their instruments. This increases rhythmic accuracy and learning!

Using the Orff instruments, students learn how to play mallet percussion and perform as a group.
They can compose songs, read written music and play at the same time, and create orchestrations! Anything is possible. Students especially love creating orchestrations to go with stories. They can even sing and play at the same time!

The curriculum I use has several lessons which require these instruments, and having enough instruments is critical for delivering these lessons well.

As a result of Joe Bonamassa fans’ donations and from music lovers like YOU! these students will have an opportunity to take their music to the next level!

Mrs. White expresses her gratitude:

Dear Keeping The Blues Alive Foundation, Inc.,

Thank you so much for funding our project! I can’t wait to tell my students about the drums and barred instruments! They will be so excited to work on building their rhythm and composition skills in music class. We are so grateful to you! Thank you for being a part of our students’ education!

With gratitude,
Mrs. White
