KTBA Donates Guitar to Charter Music Program

CHARLESTON, SC – Thanks to your donations, Keeping the Blues Alive Foundation donated a brand new guitar to the music program at Allegro Charter School of Music!

The students at Allegro Charter have access to a free charter school of music based on a lottery system. Students do not need to audition and simply need to be interested in music to be able to join the community.

“We represent a diverse population of the greater Charleston area and are pleased to bring music into their lives as they receive music instruction in their preferred instruments five days a week for one hour a day,” Mrs. Darling, the school’s music teacher explains.

“The students at our school have a wide array of interests including: rock, pop, jazz, blues, classical and many other genres. We are a project-based learning school and do everything we can to enrich the lives of our student population. At the end of the day, these are genuinely good kids, with good hearts, and great musical potential. I am honored to be able to work with them on a daily basis!

Right now, students are playing classical guitars, which makes building technical skills difficult. We explore all types of music including jazz, rock, pop, blues, hip hop, etc. This means we need quality guitars with a cutaway and steel strings!

We only own three steel string acoustic guitars and we are in need of adding more to this collection, specifically with a pick up so that kids can jam together during our annual Battle of the Bands contest.”

Thanks to Joe Bonamassa fans and music lovers like YOU, these students will receive their new guitar next week!

Mrs. Darling expresses her gratitude:

Dear Keeping The Blues Alive Foundation, Inc.,

You are just the best. You have made this teacher very, very happy. This was my first attempt at Donorschoose and I am so glad that you decided to step up to the plate for the munchkins. I can’t wait to see the looks on their faces when we return to school in August! We shall make beautiful music with this guitar!

With gratitude,
Mrs. Darling

Every week, KTBA donates to a school in need of music supplies, instruments, literature and more!
