Elementary Students Receive ToneChime Hand Bells!

MESQUITE, TX – Thanks to your donations, students at John Hanby Elementary School will receive a classroom set of ToneChime Hand Bells for their classroom!

“Our students are some of the best kids we have ever met!” Mrs. Elliott exclaims regarding her 3rd-5th grade music students. “They are so eager to learn new things about music and even in their own classrooms they are excited and ready to learn and interact.”

They say “Everything is Bigger in Texas!”; John Hanby Elementary School fits this judgement accurately. The institution, based in Mesquite, TX is a big Title I school with almost 100% free/reduced lunch. Yet these students do not let that affect them.

“Our school is so big that we have 2 music teachers on campus and we each teach over 300 children, twice a week!” Mrs. Elliott adds.

Recently, JH Elementary School became a “Leader in Me” school which teaches the students leadership and ownership skills to use in the classroom as well as outside of school.

“We teach [every student] to be independent, yet cooperative.”

“Our 3-5 graders would be using [the handbells] the most but our younger grades would also benefit from the spacial reasoning skills attributed with playing chimes. I would like to start an after school group that teaches kids to play the chimes in a smaller group setting. Playing in an instrumental group teaches cooperation and teamwork that our students will need in their other classes as well as outside of school. It teaches them that everyone has an important part and if one falls short, the song is incomplete.”

Thanks to the donations of Joe Bonamassa fans and music lovers around the country, KTBA purchased a brand new chromatic hand set for the young musicians.

Mrs. Elliott expresses her gratitude:

Dear Keeping The Blues Alive Foundation, Inc.,

Thank you for your generous donation to support our new chimes group. We will be creating a new after school program next year for collaboration, commitment, and most of all, music! We are very gracious for your donation to our school and we are excited to show you what we have coming!

With gratitude,
Mrs. Elliott
