KTBA Donates Marching Drums in New Orleans!
New Orleans, LA – Thanks to your donations, Keeping the Blues Alive Foundation donated new marching snare drums to students at Einstein Charter Middle Sarah Towles Reed!
Einstein Charter was built in 2015 and the high school was finished in 2016! Although the school may be new, the teachers filling the classrooms are not! “Their ability to sow a love for knowledge, uphold high expectations for behavior, meet individual student needs and build lifelong relationship is inspiring,” adds Shawn Torranto, CEO of Einstein Charter Schools. “They are the bedrock upon which Einstein is built.”
The school is comprised of approximately 90+% minority, 90+% free and reduced lunch and 30+% English Language Learners.
“We are the first successful school ever to permanently occupy the campus in New Orleans East where they have been struggling schools since the 1980’s,” Mr. Moore, the music director explains. “Our neighborhood is the Michoud community of New Orleans East. Our bright and diverse community is immigrant rich and serves as the entry point for Vietnamese and Honduran new arrivals to the United States. My students are wonderful [and] also extremely talented.”
One of Mr. Moore’s goals was to filed a marching drumline for Mardi Gras 2017. However, after re-evaluating the costs and the time constraints, they opted to give it just one more year.
By funding their drums project, Keeping the Blues Alive will be able to sponsor their instrument needs, and allow them time over this upcoming school year to learn the fundamentals of rhythm, marching techniques and musicality. We will be following up with them Spring of 2018, of course – but definitely this Fall of 2017 to see how the students have progressed.
Dear Keeping The Blues Alive Foundation, Inc.,
Thank you for your donations. My students are so happy because we did not participate this year in Mardi Gras this year 2017 but next year we will. Once we found out my students kept asking are we going to march in the parade season next year. we will start summer band this summer and learn how to march the band. Thanks again i am so happy for my students.
Every week, Keeping the Blues Alive Foundation funds a school in need of music supplies, instruments and more!
