Delbert McClinton – Video of The Week!

Delbert McClinton! You can call Delbert’s music “Texas roadhouse blues” if you want to. But you might as well give up trying to pin a label on this guy. Delbert finally hits the spotlight thanks to big-time fan John Belushi. Who brings him to Saturday Night Live and millions of new fans. His single “Givin’ It Up For Your Love” hit the Top 10. Giving him his first real taste of commercial success. But Delbert’s sound isn’t what you exactly call mainstream. Furthermore, his wailing harp and gutsy vocals will take you to the edge, and he’ll keep you on your feet. This high-octane Austin City Limits performance from December 18, 1982 turns the audience into a dance floor. While keeping the adrenaline flowing all night!

Delbert is the definition of road warrior, having traveled the highways from coast to coast for 62 years.  Rolling Stone even calls him the Godfather of Americana Music! Delbert’s musical style grew from his Texas roots. A little Tejano. A little Bob Wills. Throw in some Jimmy Reed harmonica. Add a splash of Big Joe Turner, and a big band horn section.
