Lizzie Douglas AKA Memphis Minnie: 6/3/1897
Singer and songwriter who was also one of the few women in blues to play guitar on her own recordings. She recorded in the 30’s and 40’s and produced tunes such as “Bumble Bee“, Hoodoo Lady“, and “Moaning the Blues.”
James Lane AKA Jimmy Rogers: 6/3/1924
Chicago blues singer, guitarist and harpist, Jimmy Rogers was a member of Muddy Waters’ first band. Afterwards, he had a solo career that saw him record with Little Walter and Big Walter Horton. After a short time with Howlin’ Wolf, he withdrew from music until returning in full force in the early 80’s.
Derek Trucks: 6/8/1979
American guitarist and songwriter who founded his own award-winning band and most recently formed The Tedeschi Trucks Band. Which he leads alongside his wife, Susan Tedeschi. He is the nephew of Butch Trucks, founding member and drummer of The Allman Brothers Band. He joined the band in 1999 as lead slide guitarist.
Nehemiah Curtis James AKA Skip James: 6/9/1902
Delta blues singer, guitar and piano player whose recording career was cut short in the 30’s by the Great Depression. When rediscovered some thirty years later, James became a sensation amongst the blues and folk revival scene and would perform until his death in 1969. His music has influenced a wide range of musicians over the years, from Deep Purple and The Derek Trucks Band to Cream and Beck, and even had an impact on Robert Johnson.
