Al Green – Video of The Week

Al Green. It’s 1995, and the Reverend is the special guest on the Tonight Show! Furthermore, here he is performing “Let’s Stay Together”. For me, this is one of the best versions of this song besides the version from the Apollo. Also, his energy is a contagious mix with his soulful voice there’s no doubt that this man is a true legend. As for the Tonight Show, you can see how excited Dave and the band are.

About the Song – Let’s Stay Together

Whether you’re happy or sad, this song is about an unconditional love where you are determined to stick it out through good times and bad. Also, a very popular wedding song. Green writes the lyrics to this song. Next, the music is written by Al Jackson Jr., and Willie Mitchell. Jackson is a legendary soul drummer who records with Booker T. & the MG’s; Mitchell is also Green’s producer.

Green did about 100 takes before he got one, he likes, and even then, he isn’t sure the song is any good. It is Mitchell who finally sets him straight, telling him it “has magic on it.” Either way, it’s a song that inspires and changes your mood instantly when you hear it. Because Green is that good at performing! Enjoy!
